Homework!

I'm back at school, so here's the latest homework stuff.

A penguin in the jungle for layout.

A bird struggling to get a worm from behind a rock...sort of (I don't really remember why I thought this was a good idea but it sure was fun to draw), also for layout.

And three magical girls based on a banana, a pear, and a milk carton for character design! Over the summer I worked hard to loosen up and understand form, but I'm happy to get back into "shape" again, heh! (oh god, that was awful). Look at that logo I made for myself, though. Too bad the color printers are broken. I am looking forward to diving back into exciting new shape dynamics this year. Till next time!

Fanart fanart fanart!

Wow I don't think I ever advertised these here but, if there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I'm a HUGE, HUGE Go Nagai fan. So I made these Devilman Buttons!! And you can buy them at my online store!! So crazy!

More Go Nagai Fanart... I looove Cutie Honey a lot. I think I like the Devilman manga a bit more than CH but RE: Cutie Honey is probably my favorite anime ever?! Maybe tied with Utena. It's a tough choice.

Moving onto some MOTORCITY FANART....!!!
For those of you who don't know, Motorcity is a new show on Disney XD made by Titmouse and it's probably the most beautiful TV cartoon ever.
I love it. A lot. You don't even understand. It's so beautiful it makes me want to try harder at everything. But yeah, this picture is a parody of the Drive CD cover, because I love parodies.
This is just some fanart of the latest episode. The fight scenes were really great, and I've been really into drawing dynamic fight poses and stuff so it was perfect!!! I really wanted to try and make a cool composition using just the angles of bodies. It was really fun!

And here's a leftover Raven from last time. Hiii, Raven.

Boy do I need to do some original stuff soon! Till then, guys.

Summer Lovin'

Here's some stuff I've done so far this summer.

Sailor Venus!! I've been watching a lot of GAINAX lately, trying to bring that energy in my work. Someone told me that my art is really "static" and "lifeless". So, I've been trying to prove otherwise. I think my art isn't really anything. It's whatever I feel like doing. And if there's something I'm lacking, I'll get to it.

This is a Korra print I did for conventions! It was my first big poster type work I've ever done. I really enjoyed it--my only regret with this poster was that I didn't stylize more. Ah, well. Always next time. I've been studying old  poster-work lately, like Star Wars and Pulp novels and the like, and I'm definitely going to have more fun with the next one I do.
One of my few original characters, Liisi Landetta, working this really rad futuristic dress I saw on tumblr. Just messin' around.
Side-by-side comparison of my icon that I drew in February and the one I drew last week. The shapes in the first one are terrible!! I was getting OCD every time I looked at it. Why did I pinch her head inwards like that??? Ugh. The new one isn't perfect, but I think it's an improvement.
And here's a Starfire that tumblr really liked for some reason. I was just trying to practice drawing dynamic poses while maintaining a shape language.

Hope you're all having a good summer!!

New avatar + big pictures

Hey, I'm completely swamped with work. Here's some stuff I miraculously found time to draw.
This is me at the open show! I'm using this as my avatar now.
A prom witch for perspective class! This week's challenge was reflections in perspective. I was inspired by one of my favorite paintings of all time: The Girl at the Mirror by Norman Rockwell. I think I teared up the first time I saw it....

Lastly, here's part of a print for Fanime and Anime Expo where I'll be selling my art! This is fanart of BBC Sherlock, starring Egg-Benedict Cucumberbatch and Bilbo Baggins.

Hope y'all like. Catch you on the flippity flip.

more things

Portfolios/films may actually be killing me. I draw cute girls to stay sane.
This picture actually has a title! It's called "lost". Sums up my feelings lately.
Just a standing girl... inspired a bit by Earl Oliver Hurst, one of my favorite artists. One of the critiques I got on my portfolio was to avoid drawing people just standing around and being cute and give them a story instead. I don't know why it didn't occur to me before, but it's some really great advice. I'll be keeping it in mind from now on. (Most of these drawings are from before that critique, unfortunately)

Little forest spirit girl! From this old picture.

After talking to Shane Prigmore I was inspired to look at ancient art to study how people have solved design problems throughout the ages. Here are some designs based on ancient African sculptures.

Here is a background painting from my film! It's the title card/opening shot, which is why it looks weirdly empty in the sky. Hah.

Wowee thanks for looking everybody! Hope you're all doing well.

ladies of late

I can't get this space girl who cries stars out of my head so I had to draw her...!! I think she might be the star of my second year film but we'll see if I change my mind...!

This one's a fanart of an artist I like's character, Parakeet Jones! She was a joy to draw.

Aaand, Monster girls! There's this monster people generator that's been going around on tumblr.... It's really fun when you're in the mood to do a quick character design, I recommend trying it! Here's what I got...
This one was "Thoughtful unicorn girl who wears high fashion and thinks about Leek"

And she's a "bewildered sheep girl who wears tshirt and needs protection"!! fun stuff. guess I'd better get back to work hahah

drawings from the break

More birds!! This time I went with more neutral palettes...

Barbarella fanart??!?? Based on this.

A bunch of dudes were redrawing 70s manga illustrations and I had to do one! This is from Kaze to ki no Uta.

I really like drawing from reference lately, it really gives you a chance to think about how you stylize... it's fun practice!
